Our funding

Canterbury donors donors, board members, and Canterbury Club members at the home of John and Hannah Bergen, May 2009

Canterbury Club is funded by The San Luis Obispo Canterbury Foundation, a California non-profit religious corporation which is a subsidiary of the Diocese of El Camino Real of The Episcopal Church. As a subsidiary of the Diocese, the Foundation is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization.

The Foundation is supported by individual donors, by the local Episcopal churches of the San Luis Obispo Deanery, by the Diocese of El Camino Real, and by a start-up grant from the national Episcopal Church.

The start-up grant from the national church has just ended, so the Foundation needs to find replacment funding. If you feel a call to help support our ministry to college students and other young adults, please send your contribution to Canterbury office at 1344 Nipomo St., San Luis Obispo, CA 93401.

The Foundation is governed by a board which is composed of one representative from each of the eight congregations of the San Luis Obispo Deanery, one representative from the Deanery's Youth Leadership Board, the Rector of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, and up to five at-large members. The current members of the board are Samuel Agbo, St. Stephen's; William Bartosh, St. Matthew's; Jeremy Bond, St. Barnabas'; Leann Brooks, St. Luke's (Treasurer); Matthew Conrad, St. Luke's; Raymond Gordon, St. James' (Vice Chair); Dianne Long, St. Stephen's (Secretary); Berkeley Johnson, chaplain; Robert Ross, St. Benedict's (Chair); Carlton Turner, St. Stephen's; James Wilson, St. Paul's, and Raymond Zeuschner, St. Peter's. Robert Grosse is our liason from the Lutheran Church.
